Ms. Jacobs has more than twenty five years of experience in all aspects of international tax planning and compliance. Since 2009, Ms. Jacobs has devoted a significant portion of her practice to international tax compliance matters, primarily in the areas of Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Programs, Streamlined Offshore Compliance Procedures (both domestic and foreign), Dual Citizenships, FBAR Compliance and FATCA Compliance. Ms. Jacobs also has more than twenty five years of experience in international tax planning, including issues relating to Cross-Border Transactions, Tax Treaty Planning, Foreign Tax Credit Planning, Repatriation Planning and Deferral Planning. Her Cross-Border Transaction experience includes mergers and acquisitions, post-merger/acquisition integrations, cross-border financings, private equity transactions and structured finance. She has significant experience in cross-border transactions in Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and the Americas, and her industry experience includes work with financial institutions, high tech companies, pharmaceutical and life science companies, entertainment and information companies, oil, gas and renewable energy companies, airlines, aircraft manufacturers and defense contractors. She has had frequent speaking engagements discussing the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Programs, the Streamlined Offshore Compliance Procedures and Expatriations, at American Bar Association Tax Section Meetings, Strafford Webinars and Bloomberg Webinars. She also has been quoted in Tax Notes Today and Politico’s Morning Tax on related issues. Prior Work Experience Ms. Jacobs has worked in major international law firms and big four accounting firms, including DLA Piper, Fulbright & Jaworski, Proskauer Rose, Ernst & Young and Deloitte & Touche, where she received her international tax experience. Admissions Ms. Jacobs is admitted to practice in the State of New York. She also is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York as well as the United States Tax Court. Education Ms. Jacobs has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University (cum laude) and has law degrees from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (J.D.) and New York University Graduate School of Law (LL.M. in Taxation). Languages Ms. Jacobs is fluent in English, proficient in French and has a working knowledge of German. Professional Memberships/Publications Ms. Jacobs is a member of the American Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association and the New York State Bar Association. As a member of the American Bar Association’s and the New York State Bar Association’s Tax Sections, Ms. Jacobs has provided commentary on proposed income tax regulations, tax notices and tax legislation. She also has co-authored the updates for Foreign Tax Credits, a tax treatise published by Warren, Gorham & Lamont. Human Rights/Pro Bono Work Ms. Jacobs also has devoted a significant amount of time to human rights and pro bono work. In 1990, as a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s Committee on International Human Rights, Ms. Jacobs traveled to Kosovo as part of a fact-finding mission. The Committee’s report, The Kosovo Crisis and Human Rights in Yugoslavia, documented the deteriorating human rights condition in Kosovo. Ms. Jacobs returned to Kosovo on two more occasions to observe elections, once with the National Endowment for Democracy and a second time with the Congressional Human Rights Foundation. More recently, following the 911 disaster, Ms. Jacobs was trained by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York as a Facilitator to assist victims’ families with the myriad of legal issues confronting them. Athletic Ms. Jacobs is a former member of the United States Ski Team. |
